The Mayor's Office for Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (MOIRA) was established May, 2001. The Houston Interfaith Worker Justice Center is a safe space for low-wage workers to gather and learn about their rights in the workplace, organize to improve conditions at work, network for various social services, file complaints with government agencies, meet with attorneys and connect with community allies. Justice and Equality in the Workplace was formed in 2001 and is a collaborative effort between Government agencies, Consulates, NonProfit, Faith-Based, and Labor who work together to provide outreach to the Hispanic community in the Greater Houston area.
